I LOVE These Two Scarves!!

I have completed my Hand Painted Silk Oblongs! The last two scarves that I designed, are of the Silk Jacquard. Not only do they have a pattern painted onto the fabric, but they have one woven within it as well. The effects are absolutely gorgeous!

Types of Silk Used

HABOTAI
Also known as "china silk" and is a classic silk fabric. This silk fabric has a soft, lustrous and supple hand.

CHIFFON
An elegant, sheer fiber with a soft beautiful drape and a crepe like texture. Takes dyes exceptionally well reflecting strong, deep colors.

CHARMEUSE
A muted crepe on one side and shimmery satin on the other. It has a firm, soft, supple hand and a luxuriouly heavy drape. Dyes show an intensity of color and richness on this fiber.

VELVET
Dyes beautifully as it is or with cutwork designs using the Devore Technique with fiber etch and disolve and wash away the rayon pile.

My Fall 2007 collection of scarves is just about complete. I will probably start to phase out my Spring 07' line this week.

I am loving the new colours that I am working with, and can't wait to see how they do. I have also added some silk velvet shawls. This will be a first for me.

New Jacquard Silk Neckerchiefs

Well, disappointing news...... I was hoping to receive my satin chiffon scarves in the 8"x54" size. I currently carry it in an 18"x72" size. Unfortunately, my supplier has told me that they would not receive these until the end of August. On that note, I have decided to switch back to the 8"x54" silk jacquard. All is well...... like the silk chiffon stripe, the jacquard stands out as well. I love working with it, because the fabric already has a design woven within..... Add my painted designs, and the scarf really pops!

I will be adding another design in a few!

INSPIRATIONS

I am revamping my Fall 2007 Line. I was searching my studio for some inspiration, and behold..... my eyes fell on on my Ikea lamp! It is a white glass background with simple leaves drawn on it. Hmmm... how can I expand on that? Taking my colour wheel, I decided on a theme incorporating purple and green. Bold, Vibrant.... and NOT SAFE! a perfect combination! Here it is...... and I love it. I think this will be a hit!
I also, decided to paint a larger version of two of my popular silk (smaller) scarves. I think they look wonderful - Red Maple Leaf and Teal Maple Leaf. On a larger scale, the colours are quite bold.

New Beginnings

Hi! I'm Dee Boswell, and I welcome you to my blog spot.
I am creating this blog to help me detail my journey, of fulfilling my dream of creating sucessful line of silk accessories through my art - Silk Hand Painting.
I have been painting for about 6 years now. This year - 2007, is my year for new beginnings. I'm trying my hand at being more organized (a difficult feat for many artisans), and I got married this year!

Also, I have always wanted to start a blog, so I can see where I have started and where I'm at currently. Not too sure what to write right now..... so ttys.
